Thanks to the suggestion from one of the original contributors to  FAMSEG from years past, Howard Raab, Esq., of Fort Lauderdale, we're bringing back the FAMSEG funny.

Our first feature comes compliments of Howard.  Enjoy!

Greetings!

In response to last month's call to action I'm happy to report that I and several of our Committee Chairs received many inquiries about getting involved.  There is always work to be done, so keep your inquiries and offers of help coming.

Thanks to many of you who made the decision to step up and become involved, the Section's General Meetings on September 10 were well-attended.   If you couldn't make it, but want to know what happened,  check out the Committee's page on the Section website where agendas and meeting minutes should be posted, but if not, will be shortly.

While our next in-person meetings are not until mid-year at the Section's annual Family Law Course Review in January, you can keep yourself up-to-date on what's happening by checking the website periodically.  In fact, a full listing of all events for the 2008-2009 Bar year is currently available - pleaase plan accordingly.  Of course, new information is posted regularly so be sure to check familylawfla.org often.

BACKWATER CASE OF
THE MONTH
by Jack Moring, Esq.

Our "backwater" case this month is from Mark Becker, a family law attorney and mediator from Tallahassee.  One of his favorite cases dealing with cohabitation is Wildman v. State, 25 So. 2d 808 (Fla. 1946).  Mark states that it is "the only cohabitation case I could ever find that deals with prosecution for cohabitation."  Despite its age and its "strong racial overtones," Mark continues, "I used to use it when someone admitted to cohabiting, and I would then ask the judge to read them their Miranda rights.  It has provided judges endless hours of entertainment and has won more than one time-sharing case for me over the years."
Mark, thanks for your contribution.  Remember, if you have any "backwater" case that you pull out , dust off, and use from time to time, send it to us along with a "war story" where it helped carry the day.  Send your submissions to Jack Moring: jmoring@moringlaw.com.
