Norberto S. Katz - Bio

 

 

 

Norberto S. Katz, Esquire, is a Judicial Hearing Officer in the Ninth Judicial Circuit of the State of Florida, assigned to the Child Support Division and Truancy Court of the Juvenile Division.  Prior to his appointment, Mr. Katz was in private practice, specializing in family, juvenile and probate law.  Mr. Katz was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1984.

Mr. Katz is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and Mississippi College School of Law, where he was Vice Chairman of the Moot Court Board and was awarded the American Jurisprudence Awards in Legal Bibliography and Litigation. 

He also currently serves as a member of the Executive Council of the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar, is President Elect of the Board of Trustees of the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association and Secretary of the Community Leadership Council of the Howard Phillips Center for Children. 

In addition, he has been a member of the Family Law Rules Committee of the Florida Bar, Chairman of the Mental Health Association of Central Florida, President of the George C. Young Central Florida American Inns of Court, served as the first President of the Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida and is Past President of the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra.  He has also served as a Director and Vice President of the Holocaust Memorial Resource Center of Central Florida, the Jewish Community Center and Jewish Family Services.

Mr. Katz has received the Judge J.C. “Jake” Stone Legal Aid Society Distinguished Service Award, the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the Ninth Judicial Circuit and the Jefferson Public Service Award.

He has been a guest lecturer at Barry University School of Law and has been a teacher in the Florida Advanced Judicial Studies Program.

Mr. Katz resides in Maitland with his wife, Jodi and two sons, Joshua and Jonathan.
